Cuestión de Peso: Estudio exploratorio hacia la identificación de estereotipos de cuerpo internalizados por la mujer Exploración estereotipo de cuerpos y género
Main Article Content
Abstract
Stereotypes refer to popular beliefs about the attributes that characterize a social group (Mackie, 1973). In the case of women, there is a gender stereotype related to an image based on thinness, beauty and care (Suarez, 2017). Objective: To explore the attributes associated with the woman's body in two sizes: Fat or Skinny. Procedure: A survey composed of two parts is designed. This article is the analysis of responses aimed at identifying attributes towards the concept "Fat" and "Skinny". The survey was distributed and answered online. Participants: 299 women between 15 and 64 years of age, from various regions of Chile. Results: Statistically significant differences are observed, where the "Fat" concept receives preferably negative attributes and the "Skinny" concept receives preferably positive attributes. Different categories of responses are organized based on the participants' responses, observing that the attributes towards the “Fat” concept are oriented to a negative social assessment, while the “Skinny” concept is oriented to a positive social assessment.
